Rotary Club of Saint-Andrew
The Rotary Club of St Andrew obtained its charter on September 8, 1966. It was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kingston, which delegated Erald Shilletto, an Insurance Executive, to lay the foundation for the fourth Rotary Club in Jamaica. We are honoured to have one remaining charter member Jim Monteith still. The club's charter president was Rt. Rev. Bishop Tommy Clarke, who was then rector of the St Andrew Parish Church.
The club has had one District Governor from our membership who served the district from 1989-1990. We have also had five Assistant Governors serving the district.

The club made history in the Rotary movement in Jamaica by admitting the first female Rotarian in Jamaica in 1993. Ms. Grace Ashley, who is still a club member, was also the first female electrical engineer in Jamaica and the first and only female to head the Jamaica Institution of Engineers (JIE).
The Rotary Club of St. Andrew has 'paid it forward' by sponsoring the formation of three clubs, the Rotary Club of Port Antonio, the Rotary Club of New Kingston and the Rotary Club of St. Andrew North. Additionally, the club has chartered two Rotaract Clubs, the Rotaract Club of UTECH and the Rotaract Club of St. Andrew. To further build the Rotary movement and engage the youth, the club also has sponsored an Interact Club at the St. Andrew High School for Girls and two Earlyact Clubs, one at Immaculate Preparatory and the Allman Town Primary School.
The club has awarded thirteen Ambassadorial Scholarships through Rotary International to pursue their post-graduate studies overseas. The club is now happy to report among the cadre of young leaders is one ambassadorial scholar.
The club has a total membership of forty-four members. The Outgoing President is Mr. Audley Deidrick, CEO of Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ), and the incoming President is Mrs. Ammesha Brown, Marketing and Communications Consultant.
Some of our Projects
- The construction of the Cardiac Diagnostic Unit at UHWI. Refurbishment of the High Holborn Street Hostel for street boys
- Donation of a portable Dialysis machine and Granuflow mixer to the Renal Unit at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH).
- Distribute 100s of wheelchairs valuing over $11M to needy Jamaicans.
- Donated over $5m worth of medical equipment to the Bustamante Children's Hospital.
- Construct the Goodwin Park Hostel for 32 homeless boys valuing $22m.
- Donated furniture and build a perimeter fence for the Goodwin Park Hostel.
- Refurbished a Skills Training Centre at Operation Friendship valuing $9m.
- Implemented an HIV/Aids Awareness program.
- Renovated and installed a Gym for the disabled and senior citizen at the University of West Indies.
- Install electronic whiteboards at the Stoney Hill Primary Enrichment Centre and St. Alban Primary in Denham Town.
- Provided scholarships to the Bramwell Triplets who hails from Tivoli Gardens to attend university.
- Construct modern bathroom facilities at the Summerfield Primary and Westphelia Basic School.
- Construction of a transitional hostel for girls over the age of 17 at the Homestead Girls Home.
- Construction of a wall, upgrading of classrooms and the playground at the Curling Johnson Basic School.
- Renovated the Trench Town Reading Centre and implemented GraterCakes, an app that features stories written and illustrated by children in Trench Town.
- Building of a new Traffic Department at the Constant Spring Police Station
- Constructing of a Peace Garden at the Hope Botanical Garden. This garden is intended to provide a safe place for groups to host mediation sessions and find ways to solve conflicts, especially domestic disputes.
- Renovation of a Multi-Purpose building and rehabilitation of a Well at the Boy's Town Community Centre.
